Watercolor Portrait – My Brother Jomer

I want to wish my brother a happy birthday!!

It’s been a while since I last posted but somehow art is calling me yet again. Since it is my brother’s birthday, I grabbed my watercolor set and went for it. Because this is supposed to be a fast art, I didn’t sketch this with a pencil. Instead I directly used the brush. I am quite glad that my first fast watercolor portrait went out alright. This is just a small watercolor drawing , about 3 inches in size. So that’s that. I enjoyed holding the brush again.

Have a colorful day! – Melonaide

In my Pace

Hopping Girl with Balloons

Reaching out as far as I could go
To a place only my mind can reach…

I stopped, yes, I rested for a bit
But on and on I will go…

Never giving up.
Always starting once again.

There might be a lot of frustrations
From halted plans and miscalculations.

But it is all better than regret
And giving up with a fret.

The world may laugh at my pace.
And scorn when I try to find my place.

But this battle I will always pursue.
I may rest but still I will continue.

Until the thing of my imagination
Is something near its realization.

Climbing to a Brand New Year

Ladder to Rooftop

It’s the first day of a brand new year
But there’s nothing extravagant, no out of town vacations or so
Just me flooding with thoughts of last year and the year to come.
What have I accomplished last year?
Any great stuffs or stories to tell?
Yeah, some stuffs here and there that may or may not bore
the lucky or  unlucky person to hear my ramblings.
So, here I went trying to order from the menu of the universe
thinking of things I want to achieve this year.
But thinking so hard makes me sleepy.
Or maybe I’m just thinking harder than I’m supposed to.
So before I end the day soaked with my own mixture of thoughts
I decided to see the sun as it sets on the first day of 2014
with a little challenge – to climb on the rooftop.
I have no trouble with heights, but I sure has one on the thought of falling.
But silly as it sounds, there goes my first challenge of the year.
Thank God nobody saw me in my funny pursuit.
Trying to look cool is the least of my concern at the moment
as I make my way up.
You see, the ladder we got isn’t the safest one you’ll ever want.
But it’s good enough to get there as long as I’ll conquer the fear.
As I finally succeed in getting there, heart shaking,
Seeing the 360 degree view of the sky is very rewarding.
As I lay there I could see the birds fly over me.
Seeing nothing but blue and orange and the cool breeze is ecstatic.
This is what every sociable introverts  like me want from time to time –
a place for peaceful isolation, a sanctuary.
As I greet the setting sun, I saw the first star of the night.
I thought that the star resides on a great height.
To conquer heights, you must conquer your fears of falling.
You cannot go up if you are too afraid of falling down.
“I can do that too.”
And then there goes the hardest part – going down.
I’m just glad nobody’s around to witness
my astounding awkward way of going down.
But it’s all worth it.
Many challenges awaits on this brand new year.
Yes, I am scared to fail…but it doesn’t matter.
If the prize of failing and trying is succeeding.

Happy New Year everyone!

30 Minute Portrait : Visia

Ate Vi

Hurray! Here goes the first portrait for my 30 minute art project. But not really the first ( see Timmy ).

The girl on the drawing is my sister-in-law, Visia. Even though I am still planning to do this little project of making fast portraits for study, she already asked me to do her portrait. Aside from that, it just happened to be her birthday yesterday. (Happy Birthday Sis!)

On the process of making this portrait, I was wondering what medium to use. I am even thinking of using ink or colored pencils. But I might not finish it on time so, the fastest medium is just the simple and common graphite pencil.

And oh btw, you may find it a bit similar to Artboy68’s 100 portrait project although mine is under time pressure.. lol XD.
That artist is amazing! Do check his art out.

As for me, this is just a simple study on doing fast portraits for practice. I tend to be a little too perfectionist on my art that I consume a lot of time on every commercial portrait that I do. In doing this, I hope to be able to discover my own art style and make it a little more spontaneous and fun.

I hope you like my drawing! If you want me to draw your portrait just let me know on the comments below. 🙂

Have a great day!

Pocket Watch

I owe myself two posts so, what I made today is a 40 minute one. It seems that the days that I didn’t get to post art are the days of protest against SOPA and PIPA bills. I think it’s a bit of a coincidence but, I like to help protest against it if it will do something against our freedom on the internet. Oh well, I don’t think I need to explain stuffs about it. It’s all over the net. Anyways back to the art, I just decided to draw my pocket watch I bought on a store. It’s not antique though. But I love it because it reminds me of the rabbit in Alice in the Wonderland. Hope you like it. 🙂

The Little Lamp

I took a break from watercolors for today since It’s starting to look like an art made by a child…LOL. Seriously, I still need a lot of practice to make my 30 minute watercolor art look awesome. ^^; So, I just grabbed my little lamp I used as a furniture which I bought from a sidewalk vendor on a town festival. It is only like 3 inches. I asked the vendor if I can actually put a gas on it and use it. She said yes. But I never actually tried. I just like to see it on my bookshelf. This time, I used my mechanical pencil and colored pencil. But it would have looked better if I used a better paper. I found out that the paper I used is too smooth, my color gray pencil won’t color at all. (I used my mechanical pencil for some gray shading) But since I already set my timer to 30 minutes, I just kept on coloring. XD

One Stone at a Time

I can’t go to the other side,
The mountain’s just too high.
Maybe all I need is to keep a blind eye,
And try to move the mountain
One stone at a time.
I really should stop looking.
It freaks me out just by staring,
The amount of work that is waiting
It can be done
One step at a time.

As the book closes

Old stories will soon end,
Old wounds will soon mend,
Old memories may soon be forgotten,
As the book closes…

The joy that it bring,
The lullaby that we sing,
I’ll treasure everything,
As the book closes…

New hope will now appear,
New opportunities will soon be near,
That’ll make it worth the tears,
As the book closes…

The Big Door and the Small Door

Two doors stood at the end of the hall,
One door is tall and the other is small.
As a girl passed by, she stumbled and fall,
And stared at the two odd doors fixed to the wall.
It is the dead end, there’s nowhere else to go,
Which door to choose, she do not know.
She looked at the big one, it must be easy to pass through.
The small one’s too small and looks uncomfortable too!
She reached for the big knob, but she can’t push the door.
So big and heavy, it makes her weary.
No matter how hard she push, there’s nothing she can do.
It is where she want to pass, but she can’t deal with its mass.
But there on the wall stood the little door.
Tiny and small, she crawled on the floor.
Although it’s small, it’ll lead her to the ball.
It is what’s important after all.

Stars in a Jar

I’ll catch some stars and put them in a jar, then lock it tight and handle it with might

So that no matter how dark the places are, I’ll have tiny lights leading me with beautiful sparks.

I’ll catch some stars and put them on a jar, then lock it tight and handle it with might…

So that no matter how far all my dreams are, I’ll see some hope just by looking at the jar!
